This chapter covers the foundational ideas you need before you build your first quote: what a quote is and how it relates to your templates, price lists and customers; how quote versions behave; the stages a quote moves through; and what to set up first.
In this chapter
C1.1 Quote versions — the version chip, what a version is, and what a new version carries.
C1.2 How the quote flow works — the stages from starting a quote to recording its outcome.
C1.3 Before your first quote — the setup sequence: price lists, templates, customers, your profile.
What a quote is made of
A quote is a priced response you issue to a customer. You can start one from a customer's request for quotation or item list, or from nothing and add the lines yourself. Quotes live on the Quotes page, opened from Quotes > My quotes.
Every quote is created from a quote template, which fixes its pricing method for life, and prints through a document template, which controls its branding. Both live under Templates. Costs come from your Manufacturer price lists. The customer comes from your shared Customers list, and the products from your shared Products catalog.
