C2.5 Pricing your quote

A quote is priced line by line on the Quote builder tab, using the pricing method its quote template fixed when the quote was created — Markup or Margin. The method cannot be changed on the quote; see C3.2 Setting the pricing engine.

Where the cost comes from

Each line's cost is looked up by its manufacturer and catalogue reference across your live manufacturer price lists. A price list that is not live is ignored. A line with no cost in any live list shows no cost; enter its Unit price by hand. See C4 Manufacturer price lists.

How the sell price is set

  • Markup — the sell price is the cost plus the line's Markup %.

  • Margin — the sell price is set so that the margin is the chosen percentage of the sell price.

A Disc % on a line reduces its amount after the sell price. The Summary at the foot of the grid shows Total price, Discount, Discounted price and Total.

Currency

The quote sells in the currency stamped by its template. Costs in other currencies are converted using the rates in the Currency conversion panel. Changing the sell currency asks you to confirm first.

Profitability layer and waterfall costing

When the quote template turns on the Profitability layer, the grid also shows cost columns, GP and GP% for each line, so you can see the margin as you price. When it turns on Waterfall costing, the cost is built up through the FX → Ex-works → Freight → C&F → Landed chain before the sell price is applied; waterfall costing always brings the profitability layer with it.

To apply a discount to every line

Procedure

  1. On the quote, select the Quote builder tab.

  2. On each line, enter the percentage in Disc %.

Each line's Amount updates as you go, and Discount in the Summary shows the total taken off.

On a Markup template in GBP, a radiator whose live price list gives a cost of £84.00 with 20% entered in Markup % shows a Unit price of £100.80. Entering 5 in Disc % for the customer's trade discount reduces the line's Amount accordingly.
